Overview

AM1710 is a selective, orally available small molecule agonist of the cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2), belonging to the cannabilactone class of cannabinoids. Developed by MAK Scientific, it is primarily investigated for the treatment of inflammatory pain and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The compound demonstrates high selectivity for the CB2 receptor (Ki = 6.7 nM) over the CB1 receptor (Ki = 360 nM) and exhibits limited blood-brain barrier penetration, which minimizes the risk of central nervous system side effects and psychoactive properties typically associated with cannabinoid therapies. Preclinical evidence in rodent models suggests that chronic systemic administration of AM1710 can suppress allodynia without the development of tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, or typical CB1-mediated side effects.
