Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AM6588 is a peripherally restricted, small molecule neutral antagonist of the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) being developed by MAK Scientific Management. It is designed to treat fibrotic diseases, such as liver and kidney fibrosis, by targeting peripheral CB1 receptors while avoiding the central nervous system. This approach aims to provide the therapeutic benefits of CB1 blockade—such as anti-fibrotic and metabolic effects—without the neuropsychiatric side effects associated with earlier, brain-penetrant CB1 inverse agonists like rimonabant.
