Overview

AMA1-C1 + ISA 720 is a blood-stage malaria vaccine candidate that combines the recombinant protein vaccine apical membrane antigen 1-Combination 1 (AMA1-C1) formulated with Montanide ISA 720, a water-in-oil adjuvant. AMA1-C1 contains an equal mixture of recombinant proteins based on sequences from the FVO and 3D7 clones of Plasmodium falciparum. The vaccine aims to induce antibodies against the blood stage of malaria parasites. In clinical trials, it demonstrated immunogenicity in malaria-naïve adults, though some transient, severe, and late local reactions were observed. The vaccine showed dose-dependent antibody responses with in vitro growth-inhibitory activity against malaria parasites.
