Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amace is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, and enalapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Developed and marketed by Systopic Laboratories, Amace is approved for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), angina pectoris, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. Amlodipine lowers blood pressure by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, resulting in vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. Enalapril is a prodrug that is bioactivated to enalaprilat, which competitively inhibits ACE, thereby preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor angiotensin II. Together, these complementary mechanisms of action provide synergistic blood pressure control and reduce cardiovascular workload.
