Overview

Amadiab is an oral antidiabetic medication containing glimepiride, a second-generation sulfonylurea. Developed and marketed by PT. Lapi Laboratories in Indonesia, it is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients whose hyperglycemia cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. The drug works by binding to the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) subunit of ATP-sensitive potassium channels on the surface of pancreatic beta cells. This binding induces channel closure, leading to cell depolarization, calcium influx, and subsequent insulin secretion. Amadiab is available in tablet form in strengths of 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, and 4 mg, and can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents like metformin or insulin.
