Overview

Amara-Tropfen is an anthroposophic and herbal medicinal product developed by Weleda AG, traditionally used to treat digestive disorders such as loss of appetite, bloating, and nausea. The formulation is a complex mixture of bitter plant extracts, including wormwood (*Artemisia absinthium*), gentian (*Gentiana lutea*), chicory (*Cichorium intybus*), and others. These "bitters" (amara) act by stimulating the gustatory receptors on the tongue, which reflexively increases the secretion of saliva, gastric acid, and bile, thereby promoting digestion. Weleda is currently evaluating the efficacy and safety of Amara-Tropfen in a Phase IV clinical trial for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in adults.
