Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amaranthus spinosus pollen extract is a biologic allergen extract derived from the pollen of the spiny amaranth weed. It is a prescription drug used for both the diagnosis and treatment of Type I hypersensitivity disorders, such as allergic rhinitis and seasonal asthma. For diagnosis, it is used in allergy skin tests to identify sensitization. For treatment, it is administered as immunotherapy (hyposensitization) via injection to desensitize patients by gradually exposing their immune system to the allergen. This process aims to reduce the IgE-mediated allergic response. The extract contains multiple allergenic protein fractions and is manufactured by Allergy Laboratories, Inc.
