Overview

Ambrosia confertiflora pollen extract, derived from slimleaf ragweed, is a biological allergen extract used for both the diagnosis and treatment of ragweed-induced allergic conditions. As a diagnostic tool, it is utilized in skin prick or intradermal testing to identify IgE-mediated hypersensitivity. Therapeutically, it is administered via subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT), where gradual exposure to increasing doses of the allergen induces immunological tolerance. This process involves shifting the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) response, leading to the production of IL-10 and IgG4 blocking antibodies, which compete with IgE for allergen binding, and a subsequent reduction in mast cell and basophil activation and mediator release.
