Overview
Ambrosia psilostachya pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the western ragweed plant. It is used for both the diagnosis (via allergy testing) and treatment of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis ("hay fever") and asthma caused by sensitivity to this specific pollen. [8] As a form of allergen immunotherapy, the extract is administered to the patient in gradually increasing doses to modulate the immune system and build tolerance, thereby reducing or eliminating the allergic response upon natural exposure. [9] The product contains various allergenic proteins, including Amb p V allergens. [1] It is distributed by ALK-Abelló, Inc. under the brand name CENTER-AL as a subcutaneous injection suspension and is categorized as a non-standardized allergenic extract. [2]
