Overview

Balsofort is a fixed-dose combination of the second-generation antihistamine loratadine and the mucolytic agent ambroxol. Loratadine acts as a selective inverse agonist of peripheral histamine H1 receptors, preventing allergic responses such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and itching without causing significant sedation. Ambroxol is a secretolytic agent that thins and liquefies thick bronchial secretions by stimulating surfactant production and enhancing mucociliary clearance. Developed and marketed by Industria Farmaceutica del Caribe (INFACA), Balsofort is approved for the symptomatic relief of cough, cold, and bronchopulmonary disorders complicated by allergic symptoms and thick mucus hypersecretion.
