Overview

Citchem A is an oral fixed-dose combination tablet containing the antihistamine levocetirizine, the mucolytic agent ambroxol, and the nasal decongestant phenylephrine. Developed by Ultrachem Pharmaceuticals, this combination is indicated for the symptomatic relief of productive cough, nasal congestion, and allergic symptoms associated with the common cold, influenza, sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis. Levocetirizine acts as a selective, second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist to reduce allergic symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, and watery eyes. Ambroxol acts as a mucolytic that thins and loosens thick bronchial secretions, facilitating expectoration. Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist that induces vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing nasal swelling and congestion.
