amedalin

Amedalin is a small molecule antidepressant developed in the early 1970s but never marketed. It acts as a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI), increasing synaptic norepinephrine levels by blocking its reuptake into presynaptic neurons. Unlike many other antidepressants, it does not significantly affect serotonin or dopamine reuptake and lacks antihistamine and anticholinergic properties. Preclinical studies indicated potential efficacy for depression, with possible applications in conditions associated with low norepinephrine such as certain anxiety disorders and ADHD, though no clinical development was pursued[1][2][5].
