Overview

This combination consists of **amenamevir** (formerly ASP2151), a small molecule antiviral that inhibits the herpesvirus helicase-primase complex and is approved in Japan for the treatment of herpes zoster and herpes simplex, together with **montelukast**, a leukotriene receptor antagonist used for the treatment and prevention of asthma and allergic rhinitis. The rationale for their combination in clinical research is to study potential drug-drug interactions, particularly the effect of amenamevir on montelukast metabolism via CYP2C8 inhibition, which increases plasma concentrations of montelukast by approximately 22%. There is no clinical indication for combined use outside interaction studies[1][3][4][5][6].
