Amerigel

Amerigel is a brand of topical wound care products primarily formulated as hydrogels for the management and treatment of various skin wounds and ulcers. The main active components include Oakin (oak extract), Meadowsweet extract, zinc acetate, polyethylene glycol 400/3350, and water. Some formulations also contain lidocaine HCl for pain relief. The mechanism of action involves maintaining a moist wound environment to support healing; providing antimicrobial (including bactericidal against MRSA and VRE), antifungal, anti-inflammatory effects; promoting autolytic debridement; decreasing cell membrane permeability; balancing proteins at the wound site; stimulating granulation tissue growth; and prompting wound contracture[1][5][6][8]. Indications include stage I-IV pressure ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, diabetic skin ulcers, burns (first/second degree), post-surgical incisions with dehiscence, cuts, abrasions[1][5][7]. Oakin provides tannins that draw proteins to the wound site while exerting anti-inflammatory and bactericidal properties[8]. Developed for both prescription and over-the-counter use.
