AMG 167 is an investigational biologic therapeutic, specifically a monoclonal antibody, developed by Amgen for the treatment of osteopenia and conditions associated with low bone mineral density. It functions as a sclerostin inhibitor by targeting the SOST protein (sclerostin), a secreted glycoprotein that normally suppresses bone formation by inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway in osteoblasts. By neutralizing sclerostin, AMG 167 promotes bone formation and potentially increases bone mineral density. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials (NCT00902356 and NCT01101048) to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in healthy men and postmenopausal women using both subcutaneous and intravenous administration routes.
