Overview

AMG 598 is a monoclonal antibody developed by Amgen that acts as an antagonist of the gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor (GIPR). It is currently in early-stage clinical development for the treatment of obesity. The drug is being evaluated both as a monotherapy and in combination with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, such as liraglutide, to investigate the synergistic effects of GIPR antagonism and GLP-1 receptor activation on weight loss and metabolic health. This approach is based on evidence that GIPR inhibition can enhance the weight-reducing effects of GLP-1 agonists, a strategy also employed by Amgen's bispecific molecule MariTide (AMG 133).
