amibegron

Amibegron is a small molecule drug that acts as a highly selective agonist for the beta-3 adrenergic receptor. It was developed as the first orally active beta-3 agonist capable of entering the central nervous system, where it stimulates neuronal activity in specific areas of the prefrontal cortex and inhibits intestinal motility. Amibegron demonstrated antidepressant and anxiolytic effects and was investigated for use in depression, generalized anxiety disorder, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and obesity. The drug reached phase III clinical trials but its development was discontinued by Sanofi-Aventis (now Sanofi) in 2008[1][2][3][4][5][7].
