Overview

**Amicidin-β** is a novel synthetic biological therapeutic consisting of a single-chain amino acid polymer designed as a topical antimicrobial for treating life-threatening focal infections, particularly those involving biofilms, foreign bodies, orthopedic implants, surgical sites, and traumatic wounds. It uniquely combines broad-spectrum microbicidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including multidrug-resistant strains) and yeast with surfactant properties that enhance intrawound performance by cleansing, debriding, and disrupting biofilms. Developed through iterative design, it features easy removal by irrigation, bioresorbability, and scalable manufacturing via robust polymer methods, protected by multiple patents; primary applications include intraoperative and postoperative use in surgery and trauma, with formulations like Amicidin-β Solution and Amicidin-β/EF (extended formulation) for low- and middle-income countries.[1][3][4][7][9][10]
