Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amicidin-alpha PFC is a first-in-class biological therapeutic developed by Macro Biologics (formerly Amicrobe) for the prevention and treatment of wound contamination and infection in military prolonged field care (PFC) settings. It is a dry powder formulation of Amicidin-alpha, a synthetic antimicrobial protein that mimics the dual protective activities of skin. Upon application to open traumatic wounds, the powder absorbs fluid to form a protective gel barrier that provides a physical and electrostatic block against contaminants while exerting broad-spectrum microbicidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including multi-drug resistant organisms) and Candida species for up to 72 hours.
