amidephrine

Amidephrine (also known as amidefrine) is a selective alpha1-adrenergic receptor agonist and sympathomimetic agent. It acts primarily as a vasoconstrictor and is used topically as a nasal decongestant for the treatment of allergic, acute, chronic, and vasomotor rhinitis. Amidephrine is structurally related to phenethylamines and is typically administered as its mesylate salt (amidephrine mesylate or amidefrine mesilate). Its main mechanism of action involves stimulation of alpha1-adrenoceptors in vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasoconstriction and reduced nasal congestion. As of 2000, it was marketed only in Austria[1][2][5].
