Amikacin + ofloxacin is a combination of two antibiotics used primarily for the treatment of infections caused by resistant or atypical bacteria, including Mycobacterium fortuitum. Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to cell death. Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication and transcription. This combination has been used in clinical settings for difficult-to-treat soft tissue and wound infections, particularly those following surgery or involving nontuberculous mycobacteria[1][2].
