Amilo-5MER is a synthetic pentapeptide (sequence MTADV) developed as a targeted immune modulator for chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Its mechanism of action involves specifically binding to subunits of serum amyloid A protein (SAA), thereby inhibiting SAA aggregation and polymerization, which are key drivers of chronic inflammation. By preventing SAA aggregation, Amilo-5MER reduces the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and IL-1β from SAA-activated cells, attenuating the “cytokine storm” associated with tissue damage in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and COVID-19-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The drug has demonstrated selective anti-inflammatory effects without broadly suppressing normal immune responses. It is administered orally or subcutaneously and is currently in early clinical development phases[2][4][5][6].
