Overview

This investigational nutritional intervention consists of an intravenous amino acid infusion being studied at University Hospital Martin in Slovakia. The therapy is specifically evaluated for its potential to prevent or mitigate delayed graft function (DGF) in adult kidney transplant recipients. The intervention protocol, known as the AID-KT (Amino Acid Infusion in Kidney Transplant Recipients) trial, involves the administration of amino acids at a dose of 1g/kg body weight daily (up to a maximum of 100g per day) for three consecutive days starting the day after the transplant procedure. By providing essential building blocks for protein synthesis, the infusion aims to enhance cellular metabolism, improve mitochondrial function, and reduce oxidative stress. These metabolic effects are intended to mitigate ischemia-reperfusion injury and promote early graft function following transplantation.
