Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This amino acid solution is an intravenous mixture of amino acids, specifically including L-arginine, being investigated for its renal protective properties in patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation. Developed by Hospital Dr Sotero del Rio, the therapy is administered perioperatively to reduce the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI). The mechanism of action is thought to involve the role of L-arginine as a precursor for nitric oxide (NO) production; increased NO levels promote vasodilation and enhance renal blood flow, thereby mitigating ischemia-reperfusion injury and other factors contributing to postoperative renal failure.
