Overview

Aminocandin is an investigational antifungal drug belonging to the echinocandin class. It acts as a noncompetitive inhibitor of 1,3-beta-D-glucan synthase, an enzyme complex essential for the synthesis of beta-(1,3)-D-glucan, a major structural component of fungal cell walls. By inhibiting this enzyme, aminocandin disrupts cell wall integrity in susceptible fungi such as *Candida* and *Aspergillus* species, leading to growth inhibition or cell death. Aminocandin has demonstrated broad-spectrum *in vitro* activity against various *Candida* and *Aspergillus* species and shows potential for use in treating invasive candidiasis and other serious fungal infections[1][2][3][4][5]. The drug was initially developed by AstraZeneca.
