Overview

Aminopromazine is a small molecule drug of the phenothiazine class, structurally related to other phenothiazines such as promazine and chlorpromazine. It has been used primarily in veterinary medicine, particularly for cats and dogs, to reduce excessive smooth muscle contractions and manage urethral spasms associated with urolithiasis. Its mechanism of action is presumed similar to other phenothiazines, likely involving antagonism at dopamine receptors and possibly serotonin receptors, leading to sedative and antispasmodic effects. Aminopromazine has reached up to Phase II clinical trials but does not appear widely approved for human use[1][2][4].
