Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amiodarone Velpharm (Амиодарон Велфарм) is an approved generic formulation of amiodarone, a Class III antiarrhythmic agent developed and manufactured by the Russian pharmaceutical company Velpharm. Formulated as oral tablets and intravenous concentrates, the drug is indicated for the treatment and prevention of severe cardiac arrhythmias, including ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Amiodarone acts as a multi-channel blocker; while primarily classified as a Class III agent due to its blockade of potassium channels (which prolongs cardiac action potential duration and refractoriness), it also exhibits Class I (sodium channel blockade), Class II (non-competitive beta-adrenergic receptor antagonism), and Class IV (calcium channel blockade) electrophysiological properties.
