Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amiparen is a balanced amino acid injection solution developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory, primarily indicated for parenteral nutritional support. It contains a comprehensive profile of 18 essential and non-essential amino acids, including branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) such as L-leucine, L-isoleucine, and L-valine, formulated to maintain nitrogen balance and promote protein synthesis in patients with impaired oral or enteral intake. Beyond its established role in clinical nutrition, Amiparen is being investigated for its potential to prevent postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing high-risk vascular surgeries, such as thoracic or thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair. The proposed mechanism for renal protection involves amino acid-induced renal vasodilation and increased glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which may enhance the kidney's resilience to perioperative ischemic stress.
