AMIYU

AMIYU (also known as Amiyu Granules) is an oral essential amino acid preparation developed by Eisai and Ajinomoto (now EA Pharma) for the treatment of chronic renal failure. It contains eight essential amino acids plus L-histidine, which is necessary for patients with renal failure. The mechanism of action is based on the principle that when these essential amino acids are administered with sufficient energy intake, non-essential amino acids are biosynthesized from urea nitrogen, leading to protein synthesis and reduction of waste nitrogen metabolite accumulation. Clinical studies showed improvements in nitrogen balance, decreased serum urea nitrogen, increased total serum protein, albumin and hemoglobin, inhibition of uremic toxin production, and delayed aggravation of renal failure. The drug is marketed by Yoshindo Inc. as a licensee and is administered orally three times daily after meals.
