Overview

Amlisimod is a water-based ophthalmic eye-drop formulation composed of a mixture of peptides rich in glycine, alanine, serine, tyrosine, and valine residues produced by hydrolysis of Bombyx mori (silk) fibroin. It is being developed by SilkTech Biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of dry eye disease (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). The drug acts as an anti-inflammatory agent through inhibition of I-kappa B kinase (IKK), thereby suppressing NF-kappa-B signaling pathways involved in ocular surface inflammation. Amlisimod has reached phase II clinical trials for dry eye disease[1][2][3][4].
