Drug intelligence / Profile preview
HL068 (marketed as Amlocan) is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy developed by HanAll BioPharma for the treatment of hypertension. It consists of two antihypertensive agents with complementary mechanisms of action: candesartan cilexetil, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB), and amlodipine besylate, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). Candesartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. Amlodipine inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral arterial vasodilation and a reduction in peripheral vascular resistance. The combination is designed to improve blood pressure control and patient compliance compared to monotherapy or the co-administration of individual components.
