Overview

Amlocard is a small molecule calcium channel blocker containing amlodipine besylate, developed and marketed by Batterjee Pharma. It acts as an antagonist of L-type voltage-gated calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, inhibiting the influx of calcium ions across cell membranes. This mechanism results in peripheral arteriolar vasodilation, which reduces peripheral vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure. Additionally, it dilates coronary arteries and arterioles, increasing myocardial oxygen supply. Amlocard is approved for the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris, including chronic stable angina and vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina.
