Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Amlodipine + hydrochlorothiazide is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels and improves the efficiency of the heart in pumping blood. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases urine output by removing excess water and certain electrolytes from the body; over time it also helps relax blood vessels and improve blood flow. The combination provides additive effects for lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular risk[5][8].
