Overview

Twinblok is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product containing amlodipine and atenolol, developed and marketed by Aprica Healthcare. Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Atenolol is a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output. The combination is primarily indicated for the management of hypertension and chronic stable angina, providing a synergistic effect by addressing multiple physiological pathways of blood pressure regulation and reducing myocardial oxygen demand. It is typically administered orally as a tablet.
