Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AD-231B + AD-231C is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) tablet containing amlodipine and atorvastatin, developed by Addpharma Inc. (a subsidiary of Boryung Pharmaceutical). Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that treats hypertension by inhibiting calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral resistance. Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor used to treat hyperlipidemia by blocking the endogenous synthesis of cholesterol in the liver and increasing the uptake of LDL particles. This specific FDC is being evaluated in clinical trials, such as Phase 1 pharmacokinetic interaction studies, as a component of the development program for AD-231, a triple-pill combination that also includes the angiotensin II receptor blocker fimasartan. The combination aims to improve patient compliance and provide synergistic cardiovascular protection for individuals suffering from both high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels.
