SPC5002 is an investigational fixed-dose combination (FDC) therapy developed by Shin Poong Pharmaceutical for the management of essential hypertension. It combines amlodipine, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, with indapamide, a thiazide-like diuretic. Amlodipine lowers blood pressure by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and decreasing peripheral vascular resistance through the inhibition of L-type calcium channels. Indapamide exerts its antihypertensive effect by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidney, leading to increased natriuresis and a reduction in plasma volume. SPC5002 is part of Shin Poong's antihypertensive pipeline and serves as a dual-component comparator in clinical studies evaluating the triple combination product SPC1001 (candesartan/amlodipine/indapamide).
