Overview
Amosartan is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antihypertensive medication developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical. It contains amlodipine camsylate, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB), and losartan potassium, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (ARB). Amlodipine lowers blood pressure by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and reducing peripheral vascular resistance, while losartan blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively binding to the AT1 receptor. This combination is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy. Amosartan was the first FDC of its kind to be developed and approved in South Korea, offering improved efficacy and patient compliance through a simplified dosing regimen.
