Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AMLOTUS-L and AMLOTUS-LH are fixed-dose combination antihypertensive medications developed and manufactured by Arrow Pharmaceuticals, a generic pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Nepal. These products contain two active ingredients: losartan potassium, an angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor antagonist, and amlodipine besylate, a dihydropyridine L-type calcium channel blocker. Losartan works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland, thereby blocking the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Amlodipine inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to peripheral vasodilation and a reduction in blood pressure. AMLOTUS-L contains 50 mg of losartan potassium and 5 mg of amlodipine, while AMLOTUS-LH contains 25 mg of losartan potassium and 5 mg of amlodipine. These oral film-coated tablets are used for the management of hypertension, particularly in patients who require dual therapy for adequate blood pressure control.
