Overview
Amlovalsax is a fixed-dose combination oral medication developed and marketed by G.L Pharma for the treatment of hypertension. It consists of two antihypertensive agents with complementary mechanisms of action: amlodipine and valsartan. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in arterial vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively antagonizes the AT1 receptor, thereby blocking the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Together, these components provide a synergistic effect in lowering blood pressure, particularly in patients whose hypertension is not adequately controlled by monotherapy.
