Overview

Ammeltz is a topical analgesic liniment formulated for the relief of musculoskeletal pain, including shoulder and neck pain, back pain, muscle aches, sprains, and strains. It is a multi-ingredient combination drug typically containing methyl salicylate, menthol, camphor, chlorpheniramine maleate, and thymol. The drug exerts its therapeutic effect through a combination of mechanisms: methyl salicylate acts as a topical anti-inflammatory by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis; menthol and camphor function as counterirritants that stimulate sensory receptors to create cooling and warming sensations, thereby masking pain; and chlorpheniramine maleate serves as a mild antihistamine to reduce local irritation. Originally developed by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, Ammeltz is widely used in Asian markets and was approved for listing in China in 2011.
