Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ammonia + Caffeine + Chlorphenamine is an oral small molecule combination drug used to relieve symptoms of the common cold and influenza, such as fever, headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sneezing. Although 'ammonia' is a literal mistranslation of the Chinese character '氨' (An), the active antipyretic and analgesic component in this formulation is actually acetaminophen (paracetamol). The combination also includes caffeine, which acts as a central nervous system stimulant to enhance the analgesic effect and counteract drowsiness, and chlorphenamine (chlorpheniramine) maleate, a first-generation antihistamine that targets histamine H1 receptors to alleviate allergic-like cold symptoms. Some formulations also contain artificial cow-bezoar (Calculus Bovis) for its antipyretic and sedative properties. It is manufactured and marketed by various Chinese pharmaceutical companies, including Jinzhou Jiutai Pharmaceutical.
