Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ammonium (15N) chloride (15N-ammonium chloride) is a non-radioactive, stable isotope-labeled tracer used as a diagnostic agent to assess ureagenesis capacity and evaluate liver function, particularly in patients with urea cycle disorders (UCDs). By administering the tracer orally or enterally, researchers and clinicians can track the incorporation of the heavy nitrogen isotope (15N) into urea and amino acids (such as glutamine) in blood or urine using mass spectrometry. This allows for the non-invasive quantification of in vivo ureagenesis and the monitoring of therapeutic efficacy in metabolic disorders without the need for invasive liver biopsies.
