Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ammonium fluoride is an inorganic salt used primarily in dentistry for the prevention and treatment of dental caries and white spot lesions. It serves as a source of fluoride ions that promote the remineralization of tooth enamel by facilitating the formation of fluorapatite and calcium fluoride, which are more resistant to acid-mediated demineralization than the native hydroxyapatite. In addition to its clinical applications, ammonium fluoride is extensively utilized in analytical chemistry as a mobile phase additive or dopant in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to enhance the ionization efficiency and signal intensity of various biomolecules, including lipids, fatty acids, and steroids, particularly in negative-ion mode.
