Overview
Amniogen is a human amniotic suspension allograft (ASA) being evaluated for the treatment of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. It is a biologic product derived from human amniotic membrane and potentially human amniotic fluid-derived cells, which contain a rich milieu of growth factors and cytokines. Administered via intra-articular injection, Amniogen is designed to provide functional improvement and symptomatic relief by leveraging its anti-inflammatory and chondroregenerative properties. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of inflammatory cytokines and the promotion of M2 macrophage polarization, which helps to reduce joint inflammation and facilitate tissue repair. The product is currently being studied in a prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial at Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital in comparison to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA).
