Overview

AmnioGuard is an ultra-thick, cryopreserved human amniotic membrane allograft developed by BioTissue (and recently acquired by BioStem Technologies for surgical and wound care applications). It is processed using the proprietary CryoTek method to preserve the natural biological properties of the tissue, including extracellular matrix (ECM) components and bioactive factors such as growth factors and cytokines. AmnioGuard is specifically designed for surgical applications requiring high tensile strength and tectonic support, such as ocular surface reconstruction (e.g., glaucoma shunt tube coverage) and the management of chronic and acute wounds. Its thickness (500-900 µm) distinguishes it from standard amniotic membrane products, providing enhanced durability while maintaining anti-inflammatory, anti-scarring, and anti-angiogenic properties. It is classified as a 361 Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-based Product (HCT/P) by the FDA.
