Overview

Amnion cell therapy (I-ACT) is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy utilizing human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs) derived from the placenta. Developed by researchers at Monash University, Monash Health, and the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, it is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of acute ischaemic stroke. The therapy is administered intravenously within 24 hours of stroke onset. Its mechanism involves neuroprotection and immunomodulation, specifically aimed at reducing infarct volume and preventing post-stroke immunosuppression. A Phase I dose-escalation trial has established the safety and feasibility of the treatment in clinical settings.
