Overview
Amniotic epithelial stem cell eye drops are an experimental cell-based therapeutic formulation derived from human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs). These cells, harvested from the innermost layer of the placenta, exhibit stem cell-like plasticity, low immunogenicity, and potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The eye drops are being evaluated for the treatment of ocular chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD), a debilitating condition following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation characterized by severe dry eye and ocular surface damage. The therapy works by secreting bioactive factors that suppress local inflammation and promote the repair of the corneal epithelium. This program is currently being investigated in clinical trials by the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Army Medical University.
