Overview

Amniotic suspension allograft (ASA) is a biologic therapy consisting of a suspension of micronized amniotic membrane in fresh amniotic fluid. Developed for the treatment of chronic inflammatory and neuropathic conditions, it is currently being evaluated by Thomas Jefferson University for the management of pudendal neuralgia and chronic pelvic pain in women. The allograft is hypothesized to provide a rich source of regenerative factors, including cytokines, growth factors, and extracellular matrix proteins, which exert anti-inflammatory and tissue-healing effects. In clinical application, the ASA is injected bilaterally into Alcock's canal near the pudendal nerve, typically in conjunction with a local anesthetic, to alleviate pain and improve quality of life.
