Overview

**Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP)** is an inorganic compound in which calcium and phosphate ions are present in a non-crystalline, disordered state. ACP is the initial solid phase precipitate during the mineralization process in biological systems and can rapidly convert to crystalline phases like hydroxyapatite in aqueous media. In biomedical applications, ACP is used for its high osteoconductivity and biodegradability, and as a remineralizing and anti-demineralizing agent in dentistry. It releases calcium and phosphate ions, supporting tooth enamel remineralization, and can also be doped with ions (e.g., fluoride, strontium, zinc) for enhanced antimicrobial and remineralization properties. The mechanism of action is predominantly through the local release of bioavailable ions that support remineralization and repair of hard tissues such as bone and dental enamel. ACP can be stabilized by casein phosphopeptides (CPP-ACP) or other carriers to prolong its activity and prevent crystallization. Commercial uses include incorporation into dental products and biomaterials for tissue engineering, bone repair, and dental caries prevention[2][3][5][6][7][8].
