Amortivo

Amortivo is a 5% medicated nail lacquer containing amorolfine hydrochloride, a morpholine antifungal agent. Marketed by Activo Health in South Africa, it is indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis (fungal nail infections) caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and molds. Amorolfine exerts its antifungal activity by inhibiting two enzymes involved in the ergosterol biosynthesis pathway: sterol 14-reductase and cholestenol delta-isomerase. This dual inhibition leads to the depletion of ergosterol and the accumulation of atypical sterols (such as ignosterol) in the fungal cell membrane, resulting in altered membrane permeability and fungal cell death. The product is applied topically to the affected nails, where it penetrates the nail plate to reach the site of infection.
